What we are about...

Many years spent travelling the world in professional careers, followed by the birth of our two children, shaped our thoughts on what makes great holiday accommodation. Here at Devon Retreat we aim to exceed your expectations on all levels

First, the location. Upcott and the Lodge really are by the sea – lounge from the grounds watching the sailing boats!

Second, you will sleep soundly at all of our properties. Our generous king-size beds have sprung slats and are fitted with hotel quality Vi-Spring mattresses. Rooms are large and airy, and the locations are peaceful and private

Finally, and most importantly, we aim to provide a luxurious environment that is significantly reduced in domestic pollutants and kind to those suffering from allergies. For example:

• We have used organic paints and finishes throughout. Our beautiful Douglas fir floorboards are sealed using natural wax oils and clad in pure wool Crucial Trading carpet

• Our beds and bedding are Greenpeace and Oeko-Tex certified, and we use 'Ecover' non-petrochemical cleaning products

• We use solar panels to supplement our hot water at Upcott, compost vegetable waste, use water butts to collect rainwater and provide recycling facilities

• Our furniture is made from solid and sustainable wood and many pieces have been restored during renovation

• We reduced our carbon footprint by installing high-efficiency heating systems, extensive insulation and thermally efficient curtains (it really does make a difference in period properties!)

Don’t just take our work for it. Devon Retreat is a preferred accommodation provider for nearby River Cottage HQ and Hix Oyster and Fish House, we are Gold-rated by the Green Tourism Business Scheme, and feature in Alistair Sawday’s Ethical Collection - Green Europe
